I wouldn't mind if they figured out a way to do 4-5 player coop, kinda like some modders came up with for Skyrim (and it's actually starting to work, last I saw). But full on multiplayer? Nooooooo thanks.

Same reason I hated ESO, and same reason I am glad the attempt by Interplay to make Fallout Online failed. In single player, you are the hero. You outclass and kick ass on everything in the realm, especially if you know what you are doing. Single player, or even coop if it doesn't worry about player duels, can still fulfill that. But once you get to multiplayer, you need different classes/archetypes/builds for variety. That's when the big concern becomes "balance" so no particular class or whatever becomes the end-all be-all one. And fun is sucked right out of the game, it becomes a chore.

Especially since in a multiplayer experience instead of one (or a handful) of heroes, you have thousands … or millions. So the "if everyone is special then noone is" effect happens. And the storytelling itself begins to suck because you need repeatable missions and how much sense does it make that you are going in to kill the same raid boss you did list week, and was killed thousands of times by other groups?

No thank ya. I would rather have a solid SP/coop game that is so fun I replay it multiple times. Even though I didn't like the sequels, I still love the original F.E.A.R. game that started the franchise and have played it dozens of times form start to finish, every so often I will run through it again, nailing the whole thing in two days' play. A weekend indulgence, heh.
