When trying to learn chariots i would start with one. Youll get an idea on how cost effective it can become and how consistent you can keep that score when adding in more chariots.

Two things: 1. What kind of replays do you want? Goblin wolf chariots, Empire crusader theme build, lore of magic highlights or just any old game we like.

2: Chariots: When you first start using chariots use them like the ball in that old game of break out. Keep them bouncing between units. If the chariot isn't bogged down the charge order should pull them to their next victim.
Also when facing a thin infantry line you can usually charge that line and the chariots will knock over the infantry and you can just push on thru. The thinner the line the easier it is to pull thru.
Think of chariots more like lawn mowers. They only do damage when they are rolling over the grass.
I think 3 chariots are a bit too much, just takes away from your micro else where in the battle.
